Amethyst Alzheimers Awareness Dangle Earrings

When my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimers 35 years ago, I was exposed to the heartbreaking and long-lasting impact this disease has on families and loved ones. This helped me develop a passion for the elderly and the diseases they face.

Although the majority of those with this disease are older, Alzheimers does not only impact the elderly. 5 percent of the more than 5 million Americans with Alzheimer's have early-onset. The Alzheimer's Association is the largest non-profit funder of Alzheimer's disease research. Its mission is "to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

So why is purple the official color of the Alzheimers Association. I found this reference online and thought it was perfect for a jewelry application. "In the rainbow, the color purple is the only color that is split into two shades: Indigo and Violet. These two purple shades represent chakras or energy points in the the head. Indigo is associated with intuition, perception and the higher mind. Violet is associated with the color of creativity and spirituality."

Beautifully faceted amethyst hangs from soldered silver circles.  The inner silver circle has been stamped with a tiny flower.  Lots of movement and very lightweight.
